In 1968 Brown and Sharpe sold the company's Providence facilities to the Guerra family and moved to a new building on Frenchtown Road in North Kingstown, RI. The Guerra family has developed The Foundry as Providences' most distinct historic urban mill mixed use neighborhoods. In 2005 The Foundry Associates rehabbed the last and largest building at The Foundry, The Promenade, a 230 unit loft style apartment complex offering studio, one and two-bedroom apartment homes.

The large mill complex on Promenade Street, built for the Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co., has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register is the official list of properties throughout the country whose historical and/or architectural significance make them worthy of preservation.
"This sprawling, historic complex of buildings is a stunning reminder of Providence's industrial might from the late-19th to the mid-20th century," according to the RIHPHC. Edward F. Sanderson, executive director of the commission said, "National Register designation gives recognition to the importance of Brown & Sharpe in the history of Providence and the nation. This listing makes the mill complex eligible for federal and state tax incentives that will assist in preserving and reusing one of the city's key landmarks." |
